For this week's homework, you will write a review of The Pigman.
A book review is a genre that involves some summary and some critique. You may discuss aspects of the plot, the characters, the conflict, the setting that were positive and contributed to the book, or aspects of those elements that were negative and detracted from the book.
I will expect your book review to be detailed, thoughtful, and specific. I will expect that you use formal English and elevated vocabulary.

The Pigman is a great book about Lourriane and John who meet Mr. Pignati and become one of he’s best friends while Mr.Pignati’s wife was visiting her sisters. They spent so much time together going to the zoo, and the store while Lourriane and John cut school.At the zoo Lourraine and John meet one of Mr. Pignati’s best friend, Bobo the monkey at the zoo. They have so much time together untl Lourriane and John find out that Mr. Piganti’s wife wasn’t visiting her sister but she had died. This si one of the first times Lourriane and John see Mr.Pignati cry. Then later as they are playing in the house with skates on playing on the stairs Mr.Pignati has a heart-attack and goes to the hospital. This is when everything goes wrong, Lourraine and John kiss, John throws a party, and Bobo dies. This just show how much can go wrong when someone’s not their. The setting of the story is in Mr. Pignati’s house, Lourriane’s and John’s house, the zoo and the store. You can also tell the setting is back in the old days becauser Lourriane’s mom hit Lourriane several times. Their were many conflicts in the story but the major conflict that nothing could happen after that is when John throws a party and everything goes wrong, and Mr. Pignati cries for the second time in the book. Mr. Pignati had a positive effect on Lourraine and John, he really understood them listened to them and gave them a second home they could escape to at anytime. He cared very much about Lourraine and John, and helped them realize that they had a reason to be alive. But overall The Pigman is a great book that shows character, Kindness, and a heart warming story,

The book The Pigman was a realistic fiction novel for young adults about two teenagers named John and Lorraine who meet this elderly man on the phone. In the beginning, they think this is all a joke but they end up getting to know and love this man. But one day things got out of hand and went downhill from there. I believe that Lorraine's character was well described because they talked about her thinking about what other people might be thinking of her called paranoia. If I were a writer I would not think to put that in as a trait for one of my characters. I don't believe that Johns character was thought out well. I think this because John smoked cigarettes and drank. He also blew up bombs in the bathroom and got a nickname for it. But at the end of the book John ended up being a pretty good kid. I didn't think that trait of him being bad fit him well once he became to be a little more mature. I think that Mr. Pignati's character was set up very well. I think this because the way Paul Zindel put together his character made the book more interesting. He made the Pigman's character strange but caring and loving. I also believe that The conflict wasn't well thought out. I believe this because when I came upon the conflict in the book I wasn't grabbed. The Climax was not interesting to me. I think that if Paul Zindel made Mr. Pignati go insane or something similar to that. I believe that if the author did that then the conflict would have been more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is a very unusual book. The plot revolves around two protagonists named John and Lorraine. By complete accident they meet this man named Mr. Pignati. Somehow these three characters seem to connect really well and the book is about the adventures they have together. This is unusual because John and Loraine are young teenagers while Mr. Pignati is about sixty years old. One thing I found interesting about the book is the author's style. The author creatively switched narratives every chapter between John and Lorraine. I like this because it showed two different perspectives. One thing I do not like about this book is that it took about forty pages for me to become interested in the plot. I wouldn't mind that so much if the beginning was building the story, or if the beginning had any significance to the end, but I don’t feel it does. After the slow start the book improves, but personally I had difficulty connecting to the characters. They were dull and failed to impress or engage me. Another thing I didn't like about this story was that I had difficulty figuring out what I was supposed to learn from it. It wasn't an adventure story, it wasn't a love story, so what was it?
ReplyDeleteIf you are interested in reading a fast paced, moving, action novel this is definitely not the book for you. The Pigman failed to enlighten me in the fine arts of literature.
I didn't finish The Pigman yet but so far I think it is a really great book. I like how the kids befreind an old man and spend so much time with him and love him like a father. I really love how the author uses foreshadowing, it makes me want to not put the book down. Although, there is one thing I don't like and that is how Pigman has a heart attack. I guess it makes the book more interesting though. I like how John and Lorainne kiss when wearing Pigman's and Conchetta's clothing. Even though I didn' finish the book yet I still think it is good so far, even with the positive and negative aspects. It is a great book.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a book that is engaging, weird, and awesome at the same time, you are definitely want The Pigman... Mrs. Puccio, I don't know how to continue this, but I'm gonna try, cause I'm not allowed to go to extra help... The Pigman is about two junior high school students, John and Lorraine, who one day prank-call a strange old man, who they come to know as the Pigman. It was just a harmless prank at first, but when the two children come to collect the money for their fake charity, they bond with the Pigman and for a while, everything seems alright. But then the two make a horrible mistake.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is incredibly amusing, but with the most heartwrenching endings in any novel. I would definitely recommend The Pigman to anyone.
Mrs. Puccio, I didn't want to go too far in my description, so I just stopped at the party scene, just in case we're not up to that part yet.

The pigman overall to me was not very good becuase it was not very detailed because I couldn`t see a visual picture of what was happening in the book.Also the book wasn`t as enjoyable for me on the otherhand the book was well written but not the book for me.

Weird as it seems it turns out the kids,well one of them probably would rather be with him than home. both have problems but both love the Pigman. Although the layout of the book could use some work. To be specific the ending,it turned out every bit as good I thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is not like many books out there. The two main characters, John and Lorraine, are tennagers that pass the time prank calling random numbers in the phone book. They come across Angelo Pignati in the phone book and decide to call him. They pretend to be older than they really are and make up The L&J Fund to get ten dollars out of this old man. However when they go to this mans house they really connect with him. Throughtout the rest of the book they start to spend a lot more time with this stranger. I both liked this book and disliked it. I liked how the author creatively switched between the characters to narrate the book every chapter. What I disliked was the general plot. I didnt see much meaning to it. Another thing I disliked was the charcters as people. They were boring and didnt make me interested. I didnt feel this book had much to offer and I would not recomend this book to anyone...
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is one of those interesting books that makes you want to keep turning the page. The two protagonists in this book are John and Lorraine. In the beginning of the book, they decide to play a prank with a few of their friends. That's how they met Mr. Pignati (The Pigman.) It all started when John and Lorraine collected 10 dollars from Mr. Pignati. He invited them into his house, showed them his strange collection of pig statues, told them about his wife and how she was in California for a while and invited John and Lorraine to the zoo. From then on, they decided he was so playful and couldn't deny him. So they visited him basically every day. But one day, the three of them had a little too much fun and Mr. Pignati wound up in the hospital.Then, one day they took advantage of him and threw a party at his house. Things were going well until Norton (someone John and Lorraine know) decided to show up. Then Mr. pignati showed up for an unexpected surprise and John and Lorraine wound up in a police car.

The Pigman is a really good book even though I did not read the whole book yet it is really inerresting. I like the part on how lorraine and John first meet the Pigman. They made it seem like they where really foundraising people untill they told him that they was not. I also like the part when John snd Lorraine kiss for the very first time and how, John changes from that kiss to being more cleaner and nicer. The part that I do not like is the part when Norton comes and recks the party and starts to smash the Pigmans pigs from his wife. I also like how the author uses alot of foreshadowing in the book. The book is a good book to read if you want fun and a story of his life behind the book.
ReplyDeleteI would review The Pigman as a ghastly-creative book for the mind. It's small group of characters, Lorraine, John, and Mr.Pignati, are greatly portrayed as their own individuals, but come together from having somethings in common with eachother. Along with their imperfect backgrounds, and other random but important people, it might just possibly give you something to relate with. A great book to read when bored out of your wits, or when looking for something melancholy to help you get back to life and see that there are others having it far worse than you.
ReplyDeleteThe pigman is an astonishing book. The characters Lorraine and John are so much similiar to the boys in the book the outsider. I enjoy reading the pigman because it has alot of character and it in a way is a funny book. I think that mr. pignati is desperate to have someone around and that is why he trys to do what he can to keep John and Lorraine around to accompany him, And maybe with Lorraine not having a father around she trys to act more like a daughter to mr. pignati than just a friend, and John mst feel that his father she treat him and accept his dreams the way mr. pignati does. mr. pignati is a good person but has no family because he is a widower and his wife died so he stays strong when he is not alone.
ReplyDeleteI think that Lorraine should try to get close to her mother like she is close to Mr. pignati. I wonder if things would change in her life if she did. I think that Lorraine was jealous of the girl that was in her skates. I think this might be because John and her kissed now it seems that he is flirting with other girls which isnt cool cause she has alot of feelings for him. John is sommething else. He is unlike most boys who follow their fathers dreams for them because they dont want to let them down. John is very inspiring for telling his father what he wants to do with his life other then listening to his dad so I loved that about him cause he was an individual. Mr. pignati is so cool for treating John and Lorraine like they are his own kids even after they told him the truth about the L&G fund. The pigman story is a wonderful story. well that is of what I've read so far.

ReplyDeleteJohn is a trouble maker, his actions influenced by his family background. He drinks and smokes just like him father. He has problems with his parents also. All John really wants is to be individualistic.
Lorraine has her own family problems, living with her single mother who despises men and is over protective towards her. Lorraine is quiet and shy and really looks up to John.
The two friends discover the Pigman's secret, but they have alot of fun with him in the time they have together.
The conflict in this book is Man vs. Self. John has to choose between being like everyone else and being his own person. This book teaches the life lessons of choosing what's right and how choices effect our lives.
I would recomened this book to anyone because it is a interesting and shocking story and though it has a sad ending, the book is very enjoyable.

ReplyDelete"The Pigman" in a very entertaining story about teenagers, an old man, and a monkey. The teenagers are John and Lorraine, the old man is Mr. Pignati, formally known as "The Pigman" due to his large collection of fake pigs, and the monkey, or, ape is Bobo. John is a dn alcohol abuser and a smoker who is not very smart or respectful to his parents. Meanwhile Lorraine is in the same grade as John and is his friend. Mr. Pignati (The Pigman) is a kind old man who has a large collection of pigs, he also is a widdow but is too scared to admit it. And Bobo the ape is in the zoo and Mr. Pignati visits him almost every day. The main conflict is that John and Lorraine meet Mr. Pignati and befriend him, but also take full advantage of him. They eat his food, have parties in his house, and wear his clothes. One setting that was positive to the story was when John and Lorraine prank-called his house, which led to them meeting him. Another setting that was positive to the story was when Bobo died, that caused the death of Mr. Pignati. An aspect that was not neccasary to the book was when most of the pigs were broken, it didn't really do much exept for getting Mr. Pignati depressed along with the party that John and Lorraine threw.

Lorraine is a very quiet and insecure about her looks sometimes. John is a carefree boy who likes to get into trouble, and have fun all the time. John and Lorraine make a prank phone call one day, it’s only then when Mr.Pignati, John, and Lorraine’s world collide. John and Lorraine find themselves spending more time with Mr.Pignati. Throughout this book John and Lorraine experience feeling they have rarely felt before. What I like about this book the best is in some parts you can’t stop reading the book; it makes you want to read more. I would say that the characters of the book is what makes the book really good, it shows character who come from different points of views. The style of the writing switches the point of view between John and Lorraine so you can get more of a picture of what they are doing and talking about. This book can take a person through a series of emotions throughout the book, the book also teaches lessons about life to the reader. It is a book I would read again, because of the writing style and emotions the author made the reader feel. Overall I liked this book.

Then they started to hang out with them they went to the zoo and met his monkey, then they would go to the mall. which I tought was cool they made him so happy. The one thing I don't like is that the kids threw a party in his house and trashed the place and when he got home he started crying about his pigs that were smashed and his dead wifes dress that was wripped. over all the pigman is a great book and i cant wait to finish it.

The reason that I say it’s very entertaining is that the story is really good but at the beginning but it gets better as you go on and you can never get out of the book is that when you read you want to keep reading on and on to find out what happens. I could never get out of it. Mostly about an old guy named Mr.Pignati and two high schoolers named John and Lorraine. Mr.Pignati is like my grandpa he is nice helpful and a little weird. John is like my brother and his friends they smoke drink and mess around way too much and doesn’t care about anything but themselves. Lorraine is like my mom; I guess she’s nice and is concerned about people. I really recommend this so everyone even the people who don’t like to read they’ll like this one.

How often do you see a story about an old man and two teenagers that hang out with each other all the time? And how often do you see a person that can forgive someone after they keep causing trouble? The Pigman is about two teenagers, Lorraine and John, that befriend an old man, Mr. Pignati. They think of the old man as a father, and the old man thinks of them as his children. The more they hang out together, the more comfortable John and Lorraine get. They let Mr. Pignati spend money on them. Then one day, Mr. Pignati has a heart attack, and John and Lorraine decide that they want to have a party at his house. Things get crazy, and Mr. Pignati comes home in the middle of the party, with the place trashed. John and Lorraine try to make amends with him by meeting him at the zoo the next day. At the zoo, he dies.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there is some good action, the book was not very captivating. It was very slow, and some scenes were dragged out where they didn't need to be. I felt myself fighting the urge to yawn when I read it. I also felt like there wasn't enough detail because the book kept switching perspectives between John and Lorraine, cutting off some important scenes. However, you might like this book if you just want sort of a relaxing story.
The Pigman is very unique and can be easily related to; however, the story itself is slow paced and boring. The story is about two young teenagers, John and Lorraine, who prank call a random number from the phone book. The number they call is Mr. Pignati's. The three then decide to meet at the zoo and from there the story unfolds. The rest of the book is about the time and joy that these characters share. The way the author wrote this book is unusual because there are two narrators, John and Lorraine. The story is actually an essay the two wrote together about their good times with the Pigman. This gives the reader two different perspectives of the story. Another unusual aspect of the story is that the two teenagers end up being really close friends with a sixty year old man that they don't even know! Since I'm a teenager and I think a lot like the main characters who are teenagers themselves, I can drop myself into their shoes rather easily. As I read, I often find myself wondering what I would do if I were in the character's situation. Unfortunately, this story is not engaging enough to sustain my interest. There is a very long exposition, therefore it takes a long time to reach the main conflict. Also, there is a ten to twenty page interval between exciting moments. Overall, I have not enjoyed this book and I would not recommend it. The book has an uneventful story-line and it is too monotonous.

The name they picked was Angelo Pignati. Once they first met him, their identities were a fake to Mr.Pignati. John and Lorraine became friendly with him and started to go to the mall, and also the zoo. The one thing that I didn't like was when Lorraine and John lied to Mr.Pignati just to get to his money. The point of view changes when John is telling the story, then Lorraine has her point of view. One good part of the novel is when they roller skated through the mall and had a good time. Throughout the novel Lorraine and John experienced something hat they never felt before, between the two of them. Overall this novel was very interesting and had a conflicting plot.

That makes him really upset because one of the girls ripped a dress. John and Lorraine feel that they have to make up for it so they decide to take him to the zoo. They really wanted him to see Bobo to cheer him up. Well, they go to te cage and find that Bobo died. That destoys Pigman. He falls down and dies immediatly. It was do unexpected that John started to go crazy.
I didn't not enjoy The Pigman. It was very boring and didn't give me the satisfaction that the Outsiders did. It lacked the good details and I didn't get the point of the story. The back of the book made it seem interesting but when I started to read it, I wanted to give it up. I wouldn't recomend this to a friend or read it again.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is a novel that is about two teens John and Lorraine who are completely different but manage to get in a lot of trouble together. Once you start reading the book. By the second chapter you never want to put it down. Johns mayhem and Lorraine’s smarts make the characters have very different stories through out the book. One thing about The Pigman that makes it so unique is the narrator. Usually in the book there is one main narrator however in The Pigman John and Lorraine switch chapters each telling their own stories. What is so great about that feature of the book is that you get a feel of the characters attitude and personality. It almost makes you feel like you know them.

While playing this game the teens meet a lonely man Mr. Pignati whose wife died and all he wants is company. Mr. Pignati lets these two teens into his home and immediately takes them into his arms. Giving them what they want like a parent. John, Lorraine and Mr. Pignati have many adventures that makes the book really enjoyable to read. But with a not so good ending The Pigman is a great book for teens to read.
The Pigman was a very good book. I think this because the book really lets you see the characters in your head. Also, the book has a cool way of having two narrators tell the same story from a different points of view. Finally, I think that the book was good because the book's details make the story seem almost real.

The two children find themselves happier than ever before when around there new friend. The author shows that we all make mistakes when the kids throw a party in Mr.P's house. ReplyDeleteand his wife and pranced them to send them money. aNed they did. But john and Lorraine felt bad and went and hung out with them. Then they went to the zoo instead of going to school. Then at the zoo they found pigman’s friend bobo (bamboo) (money) witch pigman feeds him peanuts. Then a few days’ later pigman and john and lorraine were roller skating in the house and pigman fell down the stairs and had an hart attack. Then the ambulance can and the cops came. John and Lorraine told the cops that they where pigman's kids. Pigman went to the hospital and pigman let John and Lorraine stay in his house till he got out and John and Lorraine kissed. Then the day before pigman was goanna come home they had a party and the house was a mess. Then John got into a fight and the cops came and John got sent home and pigman was really mad at them two. The next day they went pigman’s house and convinced him to go to the zoo again to see bobo and they went on the wrong day because.. Bobo was dead he died of old age I think. And then they started to walk home and pitman fell and had an other hardtack and died. I really didn’t know what the reason of the book was but it was a interesting book for me I enjoyed reading it. But a other thing I dislike was that there was not as much action in the book as I thought. I would recommend this book to people who like slow moving books with not that much action in it this would be the right book for you.
The Pigman is a realistic book. It is based on a friendship between an lonely old man, named Mr.Pignati, and to teens, John and Lorriane. It all is very interesting because this friendship between these characters happened by mistake. There are positive, and unfornutately negitive things about this book. Mr. Pignati had lost his wife(past away), and lied about how she was visiting someone in california. He is a loving, lonely man, looking for some fun. He is quite weird with some of the foods he eats like chocolate covered ants, as well as having a monkey as a best friend. Nevertheless, John and Lorriane never would have thought they would have had a friendship with an old man, becuase of one prank call. They also lied to the lovely old man saying they were collecting money for a cause when really all they wanted was the money. They did tell him the truth and he understood. He would having a blast with John,and Lorriane no matter what they did. They did all his favorites rollerblading, and going to the zoo. He was always happy with John and Lorriane until they have a party and distroy everything.

They said they were a charity .So they went to Mr.Pignatti's and so they became friends .Something terrible happend to Mr.Pignatti he had a heart attack . John and Lorraine got upset that Mr.Pignatti had a heart attack so when Mr.Pignatti got better John and Lorraine threw a welcome back party for Mr.Pignatti but he was deppressed and the party but this story had a sad ending . I recommed this book to everyone.

ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is an very unique book. The plot was virtually about two high school kids prank calling an old man named Mr.Pignati. During the book these aspects had a strong bond together and went through various incidents unitedly. The thing that I thought it was astonishing was that Mr.Pignati is over 50 years old while John and Lorraine is in high school. One of the fact I acknowledged was that the author swaped narratives every chapter between John and Lorraine. I thought it was breathtaking. There was some expression that I didn't like. For instance, at the conclusion it didn't feel like it was the end. To me, it felt like it had another article to it and would keep on going just like a series. Another prespective that I disliked was that they were switching narratives in every chapter. Even though I thought it was really stunning to use this kind of art. But in some charpter I would get encumbered and I will go back and see who is narrating. There are also some factors that I liked about the book. For example, I liked how Mr.Piganti treated John and Lorraine. He was so generous and kind he made me touch my sorrow heart. If Paul Zindel had made this story more solid and more attractions it will catch more attention to the readers.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is an entertaining book about two very different friends. John is popular, loud and handsome while a Loraine is quiet, kind and ugly although these two friends are inseparable. John and Lorraine meet Mr.Pignati at the zoo one day as part of a prank pretending to be working with some sort of charity. John and Lorraine learned later that Mr.Pignati wasn't just a normal sweet old man. This novel really captures how John and Lorraine's love for Mr.Pignatti grows and that even when Lorraine is forbidden to meet with Mr.Pignati she still does. What I liked about this book was that even though they told you from the beginning that Mr.Pignati died it still came as surprise. Together these three unlikely friends had the time of their lives with the time they had.

They started to go to the zoo with mr pignati and they met his favorite animal in the zoo the monkey bobo. The protagonists of the book, John and Lorraine, befriend a nice, lonely old man named Mr. Pignati almost completely by accident. Lorraine, John and Mr. Pignati become great friends, and this book is about the adventures they have together up until Mr. Pignati dies.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I found unusual about this book is that it starts after Mr. Pignati’s death and John and Lorraine tell the story as they’re reflecting on it. The book also switches narrators between John and Lorraine, and each character has a very different voice.
Though the characters of The Pigman were very well developed, I felt that I couldn’t relate to them and that they weren’t very engaging. For me, what saved the book from being entirely dull was the Pigman and all of his quirks, like visiting the zoo every day. The book also took about twenty pages before it was even remotely interesting to me. Also, I couldn’t determine a clear story type. Though it had moments when it was an adventure or a love story, it didn’t seem to have a set format, which I found uncomfortable. That would have been alright if the story was fast-paced, but it really wasn’t.
If you like stories with slow starts, this is the book for you. This also might be a good book for you if you can relate to the time period (the late 50s of early 60s) or the characters, who are much older than I am. But, if you want a fast paced action story or a sappy romance, you picked up the wrong book.
“The Pigman” is a very entertaining novel about three different individuals. But they all come from rough backgrounds. Lorraine is a very quiet person, who has a very hard life with her mother. John is a very wild, mischievous guy. Mr.Pignati is a very happy and grateful person who is having fun most of the time. Mr.Pignati wife passed away and death is the only thing that really gets him upset. The main conflict in this story is that Lorraine and John started out in the begging of the story using Mr.Pignati. When Lorraine and John get to know Mr.Pignati they feel bad for lying to Mr.Pignati.

The Pigman is a great book to read. This realistic fiction novel is about two bestfriends(John and Lorraine) meeting a man in his 60's by total accident. First John and Lorrain were having a contest about who they could keep on the phone the longest when you prank call someone. Lorraine cheated and picked Mr.Pignati because he lived close by. Lorraine pretended she was from a charity service collecting money. Mr.Pignati agreed about payin the money and invited them to his house. After that first time they met eachother they visited mr.Pignati more and more. With this they became very good friends. Mr.Pignati asked Jhn and Lorrain if they wanted to go to the zoo with him one day and they agreed. There he showe them his bestfriend baboon, his name was Bobo. Mr.Pignati loved Bobo and said that he was his bestfriend. One night John, Lorraine, and Mr.Pignati were playing tag in his house on roller skates. John not knowin Mr.Pignati was in his 60s ra up the stair for Mr.Pignati to catch him. Mr.Pignati tried to catch John and when climbing the stairs he had a heart attack. Mr.Pignati survived the heart attack but when he was in the hospital John decided to have a party. He invited alot of people the Mr.Pignati's house and there was food and alchole beverages there too. When John saw Norton try to stael something in Mr.Pignatis house he started chasin him. They got into a fight and right after John Tackled Norton on the ground Mr.Pignati walked in the house, and John passed out. Mr.Pignati was very dissapointed in what John and Lorraine did. To cheer him up John and Lorrain took Mr.Pignati to the zoo to see his bestfriend Bobo. When Mr.Pignati saw that Bobo wasnt there at all in any of the cages he had another heart attack. When the amulance came they announced the Mr.Pignati was dead. In my opinion I though The pigman was a great book. I enjoyed the way the author described how actions happend. Like when the Pigman had a heart attack he didn't just go out and say it. He simply decribed what happens when you get a heart attack. The one thing that I thought was negtive about this book was that it seemed That the author tried to fit in to much information in so little space. I feel that the author could have made the book a bit longer so that more details could be given. If I were to recomend this book or the Outsiders to someone i would recomend The Outsiders only because there was more action, more infromation, I liked it better personaly.

He is obsessed with a monkey named BoBo. On my point of view Mr. Pignanti is very strange. John is best friends with Lorainne, they have two different life styles. Over all the pigman was a GREAT book!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe book The Pigman is a realistic fiction novel for young adults about two teenagers named John and Lorraine who meet this elderly man, Mr.Pignati on the phone calling themselves charity workers. In the beginning, they play it out as a joke but they end up getting to know Mr.Pignati. I believe that Lorraine's character was well described because she talked about her thinking about what other people might be thinking of her called paranoia. I don't believe that Johns character was described well enough. They really described what he did but not his characteristics. John was a bad kid who smoked and drank and he also blew up bombs in the bathroom and got a nickname for it. But at the end of the book John ended up being a pretty good kid. When John became more mature i didn't think the bad guy thing fit his personality. I think that Mr. Pignati's character was set up very well. He made Mr.Pignati's character strange to people at first but caring and loving when you accually get to know him. I also believe that The conflict wasn't well put together. The climax was not interesting and didn't really grab you that much.

It all started from John making a prank call to Mr. Pignati for a fake fundraiser. When John and Lorraine go to collect the money they start talking to Mr. Pignati and become friends. Mr. Pignati takes them to places and buys a lot of things for them. Mr. Pignati treats John and Lorraine like his own children.
John is a trouble maker who drinks and smokes like his father. His parents pressure him to do what they want and don't let John be himself.
Lorraine lives with her single Mom who hates men and is over protective of her. She is a nice person who tries to do no wrong or take advantage of people.
The ending of the book change John and Lorraines life forever.

A negative to this book was that pigman's death was to obvious.

The reason Mr.pignati is called the pigman is because he collects pigs. the pigman's best friend is bobo the monkey. he walks to the zoo everyday to see him. the book over all wasnt very good. i wasnt pleased at all with the book.
ReplyDeleteThe pigman is a very good book and is self expanitory in alot of ways. The pigman book makes you wanna keep reading on eve n when your at your stopping point. When reading this book certain parts make me curious because I wanna know what happens next and then I have to stop reading and it sucks. I like how you get into it and you can really imagine what Lorraine and John go through and the challenges they have to face like when Lorraine has to hide where and what shes doing from her mom by lying and John has to deal with the fact his dad is always on his back about everything but they both want mr. pignati as one of there parents which I think is strange.
ReplyDeleteThe pigman is a good book. When I first saw the book I thought well maybe its a story about a farmer who loves and takes care of pigs. But as Ireadd the book I realized that the pigman is really a guy who collected pigs and how his life was all jumbled up because he lost his wife he has two kids who he thought were his friends lying to him about who they are and then they disrespect him by having a party at his house while he was in the hospital. Thats unpredictable. I never thought Loraine and John would sink so low to treat a man who has nothing but respect for thim so terribly even after he tries to buy them stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe book the pigman gets you thinking alot. The characters seem so real when you get into the book. Especially Lorraine cause you have a young teenage girl with one parent hanging out during the night with John trying to open up and express who she really is inside instead of hiding it. John is also a character who seems realistic because hes a teenager who is very immature with no kind of specific background because hes spontanious. Lorraine and John are so meant to be because of their individual personalitys now I see why they are so close but they can be closer.

John used to do bathroom bombers in the bathroom and never got caught. He would get other people caught instead. Lorraine is an quiet person. Then John and Lorraine met Mr.pignati. Everyday they would got to his house and hangout with him. They would sometimes go to the zoo. Then one time Mr.Pignati wasn't there and John and Lorraine through a small party but it became so much bigger. When the cops came so did Mr.Pignati. He saw someone wearing his wifes dress which she passed away and it was ripped. He was so mad he went right of to his room. After reading most of the book I just want to finish it.

Then one day Mr. Pignati had a heart attack and was hospitalized. while he was in the hospital john and Lorraine had a party at his house and things got out of control. Mr. Pignati showed up. The next day they called him up and said sorry and asked him if he wanted to go to the zoo. He surprisingly came and when he noticed his favorite animal at the zoo had died he dropped dead. The Pigman was a great book and i recommend it to others.

The novel The Pigman is about Lorraine and John becoming very good friends with Mr.Pignati. They would go everywhere with Pigman and go to his house after school just to hang out. They would rather be with Pigman more then their family, the Pigman was like a father to Lorraine and John. Lorraine and John would also skip school to spend time at the zoo with Mr.Pignati. The setting of the story was at the zoo, at Mr.Pignati's house, Lorraine's house, and John's house. When they go to the zoo Pigman has a bestfriend whos name is Bobo I think Mr.Pignati has a monkey as a bestfriend because his wife died. Then Pigman had a heart attack and Lorraine and John took advantage of usuing Mr.Pignati's house for parties. Mr.Pignati was mad but got over it and after that heart attack everything went wrong, Bobo died and Mr.Pignati was so upset that he died right after Bobo died. This was upsetting but atleast he died by the animal he loved the most. This book is very interesting and you will never want to set it down.

ReplyDeletethe book club book, the pigman is a great book. it is a realistic fiction book and i would recomend it to pretty much anyone who reads. i loved when two teenagers prank call mr. pignati and ask for charity money but eventually become friends. i thought it was really sad when mr. pignati had his first heart attack then comes home from the hospital and finds lorriane and john throwing a party and norton breaks a cooule of his pigs and some girl rips one of conchettas dresses. john was drunk and lorriane was trying to get him into the cop car when the cops arrived to take them back to their own houses. i also thought it was very sad when in the end, mr. pignati dies in the monkey house after finding out that bobo (his bestfriend who is a monkey) died a week ago.

It starts out when they call Mr. Pignati aka the PigMan and then it turns into them coming over and then going to the zoo (Mr. Pignati loves the zoo). Then they have a party while hes in the hospital. The ending is horrible because he just dies out of nowhere.

John Lorraine and the pigman end up becoming friends but when Mr. Pignati has to be in the hospital John and Lorraine throw a party and rip Mr. Pignati's Dead wifes dress things have gone to far. When the Pigman finds out about this he doesnt talk to John and Lorraine and sure enough he dies. Overall i liked the book.

ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is a really weird book. It is about the two characters John and Lorraine. While they were playing a game having to do with prank calling people they met a man named Mr. Pignati. He is a sad old man who needs a companion because his wife Conchetta died and his best friend is a baboon named Bobo. Lorraine felt sorry for him and tried to help him. This led to an unusual relationship between a strange old man and two not-so-normal kids. Personally, I would not recommend this book to anyone. One reason is that the main idea of the story was to show how John realizes he should care about other things and not be in his own world. They try to show it in this elaborate way that in truth would never happen. In other words it lacked reality. There is no way that kids would go out of their way to help an old man that they don’t even know. In fact kids wouldn’t even go over to a strange old man’s house who they don’t know. They wouldn’t want to risk it. I would also not recommend this book because it is downright boring. This is a very slow moving book. Due to the author’s main reason for writing the book, there wasn’t really a way to move the story along quickly. He had to take his time to explain things so the story would make sense and really could not put any action into the story. In the end I thought this book was like most other required books. It really isn’t worth reading and does not appeal to many people.

They all started getting to know eachother when John and Lourraine started taking daily trips away from school to Mr. Pignatis house to talk with him and have some wine. And the teenagers would go to the zoo with Mr. Pignati to go see bobo the monkey and feed him peanuts. The main conflict in The Pigman is that John and Lourraine betrayed him by taking advantage of him, throwing parties, eating his food, and by wearing all of Conchetta and his clothes. One aspect that was positive to the story was when John and Lourraine prank called Mr. Pignati, which made them meet, and become closer as friends. One aspect that was negative to the book was when Norton broke all of the Pigman's pigs which his Wife, Conchetta collected, which that made Mr. Pignati depressed even more then what he already was. But overall The Pigman is a good book, and it makes you want to not stop reading it.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend the book The Pigman for teenagers and young adults between the ages of 11 and 15 because if you need a book that is full of suspense and keeps you on the end of your seat, the Pigman is your book. The Pigman is about two kids named John and Lorraine that in the beginning of the book they think it is all a joke to prank call people in the phone book in which they end up gaining the love of a elderly man named Mr.Pignati whos wife died and he is all alone and loves the company of John and Lorraine.Towards the middle thats when John and Lorraine actually find out that Mr.Pignati's wife died when Mr.Pignati played it off by saying that she went to stay with her sister.Because of that they spent much more time with Mr.Pignati and did things he liked to do such as going to the zoo to feed Bobo.Also Mr.Pignati as a some what love of glass pigs in which towards the end Norton breaks many,leaving few.In the end Mr.Pignati had a heart attack that left im hospitalized,so John and Lorraine wanted to have a little party where after a lot of drama Mr.Pignati returns home and finds out about the party and his broken pigs and there on his return he became very depressed and the next day when John and Lorraine asked Mr.Pignati to go to the zoo he had another heart attack and died.Overall,The Pigman is a wonderful book that i would totally recommend it to nearly anyone.
ReplyDeleteThe pigman is an "ok" book. The book has a different and somewhat strange narration setup. The narration is that every other chapter the narration switches between John and Lorraine. It does stay in first person though. I like this however, due to the fact that it shows their different opinions and views on things. In the beggining of the book Lorraine prank calls an old man named Mr.Pignati. Then they go to his house and he tells them that his wife, Conchetta is in california(shes actually dead). After this they start spending alot of time with Mr.Pignati. It is interesting how they get along so well though because John and Lorraine are young teenagers and Mr pignati is about 67. Despite their age difference they have alot of fun together. One thing I didn't like about this book was that that I couldn't relate to the characters. John smoked and drank alot and Lorraine found flaws in everyone. I did however like the little bit of humor that was in the book. For example when John ate the chocolate covered ants without knowing it. Mr.Pignati was a nice old man and was very kind and generous to John and Lorraine. However John still threw a party when Mr.Pignati was in the hospital for a heart attack. During this party Mr.Pignatis pigs were broken and conchettas dresses ripped. Mr.Pignati showed up and was very sad. I didn't like this book very much it was a slow paced and strange book. I don't suggest this book to people who like action and fast paced paced books.

Mr. Pignati likes to play with John and Lorraine and one day, over-worked himself. He then had a tragic incident that changed the way John and Lorraine looked at him. The Pigman is a book for all ages and was overall a very heartfelt novel.
ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is an unique and quick paced novel. The story involves two teenagers; John and Loraine, who befriend Mr.Pignati who is a lonely old man. The novel shows much author's craft from the different narations of John and Loraine. With the double naration, the characters become more in-depth. Also throughout the Pigman, you can see how the characters transform and change. However, the Pigman also has kinks in it. One thing the Pigman lacks is detail. The author gives contrasting point of views which makes it harder to know what is actually going on. Overall, the Pigman is a unique and challenging novel that has great character development but not as much detail.

ReplyDeleteThe Pigman is a fictional book, with a different type of story line that made it interesting. The Main characters were Mr.Pignati A.K.A the Pigman, John, and Lorraine. Mr. Pignati is a lonely, elderly man, who got a prank phone call one day from two teenagers John and Lorraine. The phone call lead to a strong bond between the three of them. One thing that made the book odd and interesting is the whole story was being told as a memior through both point of views of John and Lorraine, so each chapter the narration switched between the two. The who plot of the story is really unusual and weird. I don't think there was a real conflict. Overall, the novel was very crazy and interesting.
The Pig man is a great book about Lorraine and John who meet Mr.Pignati and become he’s best friends while Mr.Pignati’s wife was visiting her sisters or so they thought his wife died. They spent so much time together going to the zoo, and the store while Lorraine and John cut school. At the zoo Lorraine and John meet Mr.Pignati’s best friend bobo. They have spent so much time together. After they front out that his wife died Lorraine and John see Mr.Pignati cry for the first time.
